Eunice Harvey York, age 86, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on March 5 after a brief illness. Born on March 26, 1923, she was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Harvey of Clinton, Tenn.
She married Earl W. York, Sr., in 1944 and traveled with him extensively during his 20-year service in the U.S. Navy.
She was a bookkeeper for many years for schools in Florida and Georgia and was a gifted seamstress and quilter. After retirement, the York’s enjoyed traveling across the country visiting relatives and historical sites. They were married for 63 years, he preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by son Earl W. "Bill" York, Jr., and his wife Etta of Monroe, Ga., daughter Nancy Raughley and her husband Harold of Alachua, two granddaughters Anna and Erin Raughley, grandson Seth Raughley, great-grandson Logan Raughley, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 9th 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East, Military Garden of Honor, 3700 SE Hawthorne Road, Gainesville, with Pastor Doug Felton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, First Baptist Church of Alachua or the American Cancer Society.
