May 30th, Please join us for the 2016 Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 AM.
Scheduled for Monday, May 30th starting at 11:00 a.m. This annual community event, hosted by Forest Meadows Funeral Homes, will be held at the Military Garden of Honor, 3700 SE Hawthorne Road, in Gainesville. Alachua County has lost over 275 men and women during our nation’s wars and this patriotic ceremony is to make sure we keep their memories alive.
Schedule activities include: remarks from County Commissioner Lee Pinkoson and Tom Wisnieski, Dir, VA Hospital. Other events include a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Milton Lewis Young Marines, color guard, wreath laying ceremony, rifle salute and echo taps. Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell will also be making a special presentation.
Local veteran organizations will be setting up on “Veterans Row” displaying military related memorabilia and an opportunity to meet veterans from WW II through Afghanistan.
At the conclusion of the ceremony Forest Meadows will be serving up a free BBQ with all the fixings.
