Akeem Oliver-Roy Thompson, Sr, aka “DJ TERRAH” 39, of Alachua County, Gainesville, Florida, passed away on August 19, 2021 in Gainesville.
His private funeral service will be for family members only. There will also be a “DJ Terrah’s Life Celebration Memorial event for the public held on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at the Bo Didley Plaza, downtown Gainesville.
Akeem Oliver-Roy Thompson Sr, aka “DJ TERRAH” was born in Brooklyn, NY to Elwin Oliver Thompson and Lisa Marie Canton on March 22, 1982. He went to high school at Buchholz H.S. He worked as a Radio DJ, On-Air Personality, Mix Show Director and Radio Programmer for MAGIC 101.3 (WTMG) and for 98.9 JAMZ. He was an avid music producer and was the Vice President of Go Legit Entertainment. He was involved in the historic Freemason Lodge and he enjoyed raising his 3 children, spending time with his large family and close friends and providing music for the world to enjoy. He appeared on BET representing Gainesville’s Hip Hop DJ’s; he opened for Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes and learned and trained with Funk Master Flex. He was awarded “2020 Best Single Dad of the Year”, his nomination was submitted by the community because he raised his children as a Single Parent.
Akeem Oliver-Roy Thompson Sr, is preceded in death by his Maternal Great Grandmother Ianthe Sprauve, Maternal Grandfather Alric “Rico” Canton and Maternal Grandmother Joan Canton; Paternal Grandmother Lillian Thompson, Paternal Grandfather Earnest Sutton; Maternal Uncles Roy Canton, Tug Canton, and Melvin McBean; Paternal Uncle Bertram McMahon; and Maternal Aunt Janice McBean.
He is survived by his Daughters Jada Alexis Thompson and Justice Beverly Thompson, his Son Akeem Oliver-Roy Thompson, Jr, his Brother, Desean Jo Al Thompson and Fiance’ Shanita Lee, his Nephews Kemeon Lee and Chad Thompson; Father Elwin Oliver Thompson, Mother Lisa Marie Canton; Aunts Kim Daniels, Dana Jones and her husband Charles Jones; Joi Canton Lewis and her husband Elroy Lewis, Erika Canton, Alda Allen, Gloria Adams, Eloise Edwards, Joan Fortune, Sonia McBean, Marsha Canton, Tiny Sutton, Verna Thompson and Sylvia Boyd; his Uncles Anthony Cannon Sr, Wilmot A.
