Betty Jean “Jeannie” McCook Sturdivant (Thompson), 82, of
Interlachen, Florida passed away on March 8 th , 2023, in
Gainesville, Florida. Jeannie was born in Douglas, Georgia to Ira
McCook and Annette Buchan on June 17 th , 1940. She went to
high school at Terry Parker. She worked at Quincy’s, Steak &
Eggs, Tenneco gas station before retiring to be a homemaker
when she and her husband moved to the countryside of
Interlachen. Although being born in Georgia, she was an avid
Florida Gator at heart.
She is preceded in death by her first husband (AE1) Melvin Carl
Thompson (KIA Vietnam War), her parents, Ira, and Annette
(Buchan) McCook; her brothers (Senior Chief Petty Officer) Billy
McCook, Bobby McCook, and Ira “Butch” McCook; her
grandchildren, Shawn Beach, Michael Benjamin Haines, and her
nephew William “Billy” McCook. She is also preceded in death by
her son-in-law, (Staff Sargent) David Hancock.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Lubert Eugene
“Gene” Sturdivant, daughters Kathryn Annette Thompson, Sheila
(Randy) Haines, Debra Rebecca Thompson, Cynthia Louise
Thompson (SSG David Hancock), Janie Sturdivant and sons
Melvin Carl Thompson, Jr., Rob Lee (Laurie) Holloway and Alan
(Kim) Sturdivant her sister Peggy Ann Wolfe, grandchildren David
Bernard (Mandi) Roller III, Rachel Haines, Chastity Nicole Carter
(Brooks Long), Anthony Lee (Sheryl) Roller, Tiffany Beach, Adam
Jean (Kara) Binion, Jeannie Marie (Paul) Hall, Jordan LeeAnn
Holloway, Serenity Holloway and Logan Ethan Holloway and 23
other grandchildren (35 total) and several great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hawthorne
on Monday, March 13 th , 2023, at 10 am for the family. Funeral
service following visitation from 11 am to 12 noon with Pastor Dr.
L.D. Osteen officiating.
Burial/Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery on
Tuesday, March 14 th , 2023, at 11:30 am. Forest Meadows of
Gainesville are handling the funeral arrangements.

One of a kind lady! She gave me not only a beautiful wife but two boys who mean the world to me. We had our differences, but I will always remember the good times. She is one person who lived her life to the fullest. My hearts goes out to all of her family.
