McEwen, Beverly Elizabeth, 87, of Gainesville, formerly of Miami, was born on February 2, 1935 in Miami, FL. She went to heaven on September 21, 2022 after a long and hard fought illness. Beverly Schofield was born and raised in Miami to parents P. Frank and Marie Schofield. Beverly was a graduate of Miami Jackson High school class of 1952. In 1954, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” McEwen Sr. They lived in the Miami Shores area for many years and as their family grew, they moved in 1971 to Coral Gables, FL for the next 25 years.
Together, Beverly and Bill raised five children. Beverly was a very active church member at the University Baptist church in Coral Gables where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years.
She also was a member of the Biltmore Heights Garden club where she cultivated her love of flowers and hosted many events at her home. She had a passion for antiques and home decorating which was reflected in her beautiful home. In the summertime, she loved spending time in their Blowing Rock, NC mountain home and taking trips overseas.
To all of her children she was just “Mom”. Her patience and love for her family was unbreakable. We simply could not have asked for a better Mom. Her faithfulness to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was always at the center of everything she did.
She had an abundance of friends over the years. Her gentle sweet spirit and strong Christian faith radiated throughout her personality and drew people to her. Everyone who met Beverly fell in love with her and her beautiful smile.
In 1996 after Bill retired, they moved to Gainesville, FL where shortly after, they joined Grace Baptist church and made many new wonderful friends who they loved like family. Beverly enjoyed hosting many family gatherings in her Gainesville home as the family grew with lots of grand and great grandchildren. She was also able to travel to some beautiful places in her later years including Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, William McEwen, parents P. Frank and Marie Schofield and brothers Harry and Thomas Schofield.
She is survived by sons William McEwen Jr (Lisa), Michael McEwen of Gainesville, FL, James “Jim” McEwen (Nancy) of Ft White, FL, daughters Laura Diedricks (Ted) of Gainesville, FL and Maria Warco (Dan) of Blowing Rock, NC. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Beverly’s honor to Grace Baptist church of Gainesville, FL.
Visitation for Ms. McEwen will be held on Saturday, September 24 at Forest Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. Friends and family are asked to meet at the chapel from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Funeral services will follow at Grace Baptist Church 7100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606, at 1:00PM.
