Carol Wahlquist Opp

Carol Wahlquist Opp was born on September 8, 1942 in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the only child of Carl Sherer and Alfreda Kohlrush Sherer. She died on Saturday, July 26, 2014.

After growing up in Ohio, Carol graduated from Marshall University in West Virginia with a Bachelor degree in Art Education. After graduating she worked as a Lab Tech in St. Petersburg, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Gainesville, Florida. She returned to live in Florida permanently in the late 1970s. She loved the Florida Gators.

She was a lifelong Girl Scout, beginning with Brownies and continuing through her college years as a Senior Scout. She also was a huge supporter of the Nature Conservancy. Carol’s favorite past time was laughter. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved sharing it with her friends.

Carol is predeceased by her husband, Jimmy Opp, and her parents. She is survived by cousins Dr. Richard Childers (Nancye), Dr. Tom Childers (John Hall), David Hartzell (Donna), Lynn Elseser (Donald), Barbara Gold (Robert), Bob Strader, Ron Strader (Arlene), and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, and her very dear friend, Jayne Grant, who was with her through the end.

A special gathering of her friends and family will be held at Carol’s home on Friday, August 1st, from 3-5 p.m.
