Dr. Charles Dean Covey, 89, of Gainesville, passed away January 25, 2012 at Shands Hospital. Dr. Covey was born in Columbus Grove, Ohio and moved to Florida in 1953 from Norfolk, VA. He served in WWII in the Pacific and retired CPO from the U.S. Navy. He received his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree with high honors form U of F and his PHD in Agricultural Economics from LSU. Dr. Covey was a Professor at the University of Florida, IFAS.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed serving his community through the local Kiwanis Club of Gainesville.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Covey, son Dr. Ted Covey of McLean, VA, daughter Karen Covey Sandelin (Bruce) of Denton, TX, and grandson Taylor Munson of Decatur, IL.
Burial will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 9:00 AM with Full Military Honors and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM in The Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave., Gainesville, Fl with Rev. Troy Holloway officiating and assisted by Rev. David Cook of Burton, MI
