Charles Howard Tompkins

Charles Howard Tompkins, 86   Charles Tompkins passed away Sunday, February 18, 2017 at Lafayette Health Center in Mayo, FL from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Charles was born November 18, 1930, in Bushnell, Florida, the youngest of 4 children.    Charles retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service and the University of Florida after 10. Charles and his wife Joan then served for 17 years as domestic missionaries through Campers on Mission. Although Charles was a lifelong resident of Florida, through his military service and missionary work, he was well traveled both within the U.S. and abroad. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and playing with his dog Heidi.    Charles is survived by his wife, Joan Tompkins; daughters, Pamela J. Tompkins and Zona Gale; son, Steve A. Tompkins; grandchildren Melissa M. Pennington, Joshua Bozarth, Shane R. Moncy, Jerimiah Bozarth;  two great-grandchildren,  Arielle and Emily;  and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Memorial Services will be held 4:00pm on March 11, 2017 at Waldo First Baptist Church, 14370 Kennard Street (SR-24), Waldo, Fl. with Rev. Jim Dubois officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, Fl.
