David M. Bickford, 75, ofGainesville,FL passed away September 21, 2012 at Shands at UF. Mr. Bickford was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ontario to David and Helen Bickford and had lived in Gainesville for the past 46 years. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Business Administration and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the Director of Internal Control at theUniversityofFloridafor 31 years.
Mr. Bickford was a member of VFW Men’s Auxiliary 2811, American Legion Post 16, Loyal Order of Moose, AMVETS, Sharkhunters, NMRA Life Member, and Life Member of TCA. He was an avid sailor and loved his Lionel train collection.
He is survived by son, David R. Bickford (Sheryl) ofGainesville, two grandchildren, David Matthew Bickford (Amy) of Ft.Wayne, IN and Michael Richard Bickford (Krystle) of Keystone Heights,FL, three great grandchildren, Abigail, Arabella and J.R.
Visitation will be at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville on September 26 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 2811 or Lions Club of Starke, FL. At his request, Mr. Bickford will be cremated.

Our condolences to the family from some old sailing friends. There are many fond memories from our weekend sailing cruises, our sail trip to the Bahamas in 1979 and the many fun evenings we spent in your Shangri La.
David, may you rest in peace Dear Friend. I hope GOD accepts you into Heaven even if you didn’t believe in him.
You will be missed by all of your friends. I’m glad I atleast got to visit you one last time before you left us.
