In Loving Memory of

Dorothy Ruby Beard Carlisle (Dot)

Dorothy Ruby Beard Carlisle (Dot) passed away suddenly on November 9, 2022. She was born on February 14, 1926, in Barrineau Park, Florida to Ruby Gibson Beard and Stephen Ord Beard. Dot grew up on the family farm in Molino, Florida and graduated from Tate High School in 1943.  She trained as a registered nurse with the World War II U.S. Cadet Nurse Core at Georgia Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta and worked at hospitals in Athens, Georgia and Emory Hospital while attending evening school at Georgia State University. She returned to Pensacola, Florida where she worked at Baptist Hospital and later married Victor Carlisle, moving to Gainesville in 1954 when Vic returned to UF to pursue graduate work, ultimately earning his PhD in 1961. She worked at Alachua General Hospital and later as a private duty nurse.  Dot developed many lifelong friendships during her career.  She was an excellent bridge player, enjoying the game into her 90s. She and Vic loved to travel enjoying many international and domestic trips together. Her family and friends will remember her fondly for her great sense of humor and wit.  Dot moved to the Village in 2009 after Vic’s passing where she lived for almost 14 years. She will be sorely missed by her daughters – Marsha Carlisle (Kent Steele) of Stuart, Florida, Patricia Jones of Hiram, Georgia, and Susie Carlisle of Delray Beach, Florida; grandchildren – Stephanie Sutton (Tadd) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Savannah and Lilly Steele of New York City and great grandchildren Ethan and Asher Sutton.
