Dr. Charles E. Lore passed away from a long illness May 2, 2014. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Lore and was born in St. Louis, Missouri May 29, 1934.
After graduating from Medical School at the University of North Carolina, he was recruited by the University of Florida and became the first person to go through both internship and residency at Shands Teaching Hospital.
After serving two years in the Army with the 11th Evac Hospital in Pusan, Korea, he returned to Gainesville and started the general surgery group Babers, Lore and Associates P.A. While practicing, he was among the first to do laparoscopic surgery in Gainesville. Some of the professional groups he was affiliated with was the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Florida Association of General Surgeons, and the Woodward Society.
After retiring 15 years ago, he became a Bullgator, and participated in the Rotary Club, and enjoyed many rounds of golf. He also made many friends in Daytona Beach where he and his family owned a condo and spent much of their time.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Jean London Lore, his two daughters, Linda Lore of Gainesville and Beth Lore of Tampa as well as his brother, John Lore of Greensboro, North Carolina. The honorary pallbearers are his colleagues and his golfing friends. The family expresses special thanks to the caregivers of Granny Nannies and Elaine Bolen.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Forest Meadows Memorial Park Mausoleum-Chapel in the Meadows at 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, Florida. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday May 6, 2014 at Forest Meadows Memorial Park-Chapel in the Meadows at 4100 NW 39 Ave Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Orvin Jenkins will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to E.T. York Haven Hospice of Gainesville and the American Cancer Society.
