Dr. Peyton Zimmerman Peebles, Jr.

Dr. Peyton Zimmerman Peebles, Jr. 77, of Gainesville, passed away September 3, 2012 at Woodlands Care Center.  He was born September 10, 1934 in Columbus,GA.  Peyton spent his childhood in the southeast before attending the University of Evansville.  In 1967, he earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania where he held a David Sarnoff Fellowship from RCA.  Shortly thereafter, Peyton began a distinguished 30 year career in education where he taught at the University of Tennessee, University of Hawaii and is a professor emeritus from the University of Florida.  Peyton authored 5 engineering textbooks and was a Life Fellow of the IEEE.  During retirement Peyton enjoyed fishing and oil painting. He is a member and past president of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association, and was a member of Grace at Ft. Clark United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Barbara Peebles, sons Peyton Z. Peebles, III (Brenda) of Houston, TX and Edward Peebles (April) of Fleming Island, brother Norman Dials of Bakersville, NC and five grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Grace at Ft. Clark United Methodist Church, 9325 Newberry Rd., Gainesville, FLwith Rev. Rick Thompson officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 PM at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Ave.,Gainesville, Fl.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions of Grace at Ft. Clark or Haven Hospice.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care services provided by Woodlands Care Center and the overwhelming support of the Grace at Ft. Clarke family.
