Edith O’Rourke, of Gainesville, FL, died October 11, 2012. She was 97.
Mrs. O’Rourke was born on Long Island, NY on July 22, 1915 to Joan and William Innes, formerly of Scotland. She, with her daughter, moved to Quincy, CA in 1950 as the beloved wife of Francis “Tim” O’Rourke. She had been a legal secretary in New York and was a homemaker in Quincy. She belonged to The Order of the Eastern Star and was active in Quincy United Methodist Church as a choir member, teacher and dance instructor.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, brothers, Gordon and Jim, and sister, Frances. After the death of her mother-in-law, Claire, who lived to 111, she moved to Reno, NV and became active n South Reno United Methodist Church. She moved to Gainesville in the middle of the ’04 hurricane season.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Diane and son-in-law, Lee Kauper of Alachua, FL; granddaughters, Laura (Jim) Atwell of NJ and Amy Kauper of Gainesville, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Whispering Pines Cemetery in Portola, CA at a later date.
