Byers, Edward John, 99 of Overland Park, KS passed away at the Garden Terrace Nursing Facility.
Edward was born in Bayonne, NJ on December 4, 1914. Edward grew up in New Jersey and at the height of the depression went to work for the Ryerson Steel Corporation where he started in the mailroom and worked his way up to General Manager when he retired in 1973. He then went to work as Contracts Administrator for the Komlein-Sanderson Engineering Corporation where he held that position until his second retirement in 1985 at the age of 70.
Edward was a devote Christian where his served as parish council of Epiphany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warren, NJ and while in Gainesville was an active communicant of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. At the age of 91, Edward accompanied some other Lutherans from Florida on a “Lutherland” trip to Germany, where they toured places made famous in the Reformation history of 16th century Germany.
Edward is predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years Dorothy. He is survived by his son Keith Edward Beyers of Prarie Village, KS Grandson Peter Beyers of Springfield, OH and Great Grandchildren Melissa and Jason Beyers. A daughter Pamela Louise Nagy of Berkley Heights, NJ Grandson Eric Nagy and granddaughters Victoria Nagy and Karin Nagy and 5 nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mr. Byers will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 9th, 2014 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Interment will follow at the Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Forest Meadows Funeral Home.
