Evelene L. Whiddon, 85, longtime resident of Gainesville, FL passed away Sunday, 12/9/2018 at E T York Haven Hospice Care Center following a long illness. She was born in Ravenden, Arkansas to the late Roy Swartzlander and Inez Schockley Swartzlander. As a young girl, she was raised by her grandmother, Lola Swartzlander (“ Little Grandma”). After her family moved to Florida, she met and married Daniel Lavaughn Whiddon and was a homemaker, quite successfully raising their two sons, Danny and Phil Whiddon. She loved her family, puzzling, playing cards, sewing, quilting, traveling, gambling, playing slots, baking/cooking and she made the best chicken n dumplings and cornbread stuffing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Lavaughn Whiddon, parents, Roy Ray and Inez Swartzlander, sister, Lola Neoma Teston and her granddaughters husband, John Hodson. She is survived by her two sons, Danny (Linda) Whiddon and Phil (Camile) Whiddon, grandchildren, Trey (Danielle) Whiddon, Rachel Hodson, Phillip (Stacey) Whiddon and Kristi (Jakub) Holmes, and Great Grandchildren, Braylan, Ellie, Hunter, Charlie, Evie Claire, Molly, Maya and Elijah. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice or John Hodson trust at gofundme.com. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central Mausoleum, Chapel in the Meadows, there will be a visitation one hour prior to services. Entombment will take place immediately following services. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, FL.
