Harold King

Harold King, age 81, passed away on Friday, Jan 15 th , 2021 in Gainesville, Fl. Harold was born in McLeansboro, Illinois Sept. 2, 1939 and grew up in the southern Illinois area. He came to Gainesville to visit during the winter months when he was 19 years old, went back to Illinois, packed his bags and moved to Gainesville. He completed his college education at the University of Florida with a degree in Advertising, College of Journalism.

Harold began working at the bookstore on the UF campus soon after arriving in Gainesville, beginning as a clerk and working his way up to Director. He retired from the bookstore after 27 years but returned to UF as a purchasing manager 5 years later, retiring a second time after 13 years. Harold also served in the US Navy as an intelligence officer in Japan.

Harold is a long-time member of Westside Baptist Church where he served in many areas and was treasurer for Gainesville Kiwanis Club.

Harold is survived by his wife, Judy Jones King, son, Michael King (Shelly), daughter Robin Predmore (Ben), three granddaughters, Kaila, Cora and Evie and one great grandson, Emery.

    So sorry to hear of the loss of Harold. I worked with him for several years at the University in Purchasing. He was funny, smart, helpful and I always enjoyed our conversations and his advise. Sending prayers for the family at this time and healing for your heart.

    So sorry to read this – Harold King was such a fine gentleman. I worked with him at the Campus Shop and Bookstore for many years. I managed the shop in the Reitz Union, while Harold was the Director. There are lots of fond memories from those years, and many of them include Harold Sending much love, peace and strength to his family and friends during this very ad time.
