Hilda Norton Mansell, 87, of Gainesville passed away peacefully at North Florida Regional Medical Center on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Hilda was born in Anniston, Alabama, on April 20, 1927. She moved from back and forth from Alabama to Florida over the years before finally settling down with her family in Gainesville in the early 1970s.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Rawden Mansell, and is survived by her son Michael, daughter-in-law Debra, and grandson Mitchell.
Hilda lived a full life as a devoted wife, caring mother, and good friend. She spent many of her years as a homemaker. In the 1970s and 1980s, she had a career as assistant manager of the Westwood Middle School lunchroom, where she honed her skills as a great cook and wonderful baker.
Funeral services for Hilda will be Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 2 p.m., in Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central’s “Chapel in the Meadows”, 4100 NW 39th Ave., Entombment will follow.
