Hortense “Sis” Hill, 91, of Gainesville, FL went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 24th, 2017 at the Haven Hospice House, surrounded by her closest loved ones. Sis was born Hortense Prater in Cairo, GA on February 25th, 1926 to Walter and Mary Prater. She grew up in Tallahassee, FL. She settled in Gainesville, FL in 1960 and raised three children before retired as a registered nurse. She was an active member of her local communities and was a past President of the Women’s Club in Monticello, FL. She was also a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lloyd in Monticello, FL.
Sis could teach you how to catch a Brim with her cane pole at the lake. She enjoyed participating in sports growing up and was an avid sports watcher in her later years. She kept her mind sharp with reading, crossword puzzles and she could complete a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle in record time. Her beloved cat Skye was always on the arm of her chair or in her lap. Every morning she would put ice in her cat’s water bowl because that’s how she preferred to drink her water. She was adored by her family, and greatly adored by her great grandchildren, most of them who called her “Meme”. She often proudly wore a sweatshirt with her great grandchildren’s names embroidered on it. She was an elegant woman with a soft spirit and she will be missed by many. She is survived by her three children, Karen Schroder, Bill Farris, JoAnne Gibson and their spouses, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainesville, FL. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, April 27th from 5pm-7pm at 725 NW 23rd Avenue, 32609.
