Ida Marie Kearns, 98, of Gainesville, peacefully passed away on May 23, 2012 at E.T. York Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Kearns was born in Canada on September 3, 1913 to the late Jerome and Marie Masse.  She moved to Stamford, Connectifut after her marriage to Joseph Kearns in 1946, upon his return from overseas in WWII.  They moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1964 and then to Gainesville in 1974.

Ida was a wonderful homemaker and loved to sew, crochet, and knit.  She also enjoyed baking.  Her specialty was desserts, the sweeter the better.  She loved the challenge of a good game of poker with her bank of pennies by her side.  In her later years, she delighted in going out to eat, especially at fast food restaurants, which is something she never thought of doing in her younger years.

Ida was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Joseph.  Survivors include her son, John Kearns and his wife, Nancy, her daughter, Lynn Neff and her husband, Pete; grandchildren: Sean Kearns, Kelly Kearns, Heather Famigletti, mike neff and one great-grandchild, Kaylyn Kearns.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Friday, June 1 with Father Jose Mesa as Celebrant.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL  32606.
