At an early age Johnny began his journey in athletics, by playing pop warner football and playing football for the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County. He attended Eastside High School and participated in track and football. Johnny received several awards and recognitions for Track and Field and football. He was the Hall of Fame in 2009 for track and he also was athlete of the year.
