John Melton Overby, 86, of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his home. He was born on September 5, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Colleen; children, Larry(Anne) Overby, Gary (Janice) Overby, Diana (Dennis) Norton and John R. Overby; 9 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren and one on the way.
John was a Production Manager for American Box Company for almost 40 years. He also served during WW II in the US Navy.
The love his family brought him was evident by the joy on his face at the mention of their names and especially when he would see them. His yard shows the passion he felt for the flowers and trees he planted throughout the years of his life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Ave. at 1:30pm with Troy Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East on Hawthorne Road. Visitation will be Friday, November 2nd from 5-7 pm at Forest Meadows Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Haven Hospice.
