Joseph John Montalbano Sr., 83, of Gainesville, passed away Friday February 27, 2015 at NFRMC following a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and was a resident of Gainesville, FL for 40 years. “Hoagie Joe” had a kind, generous heart with an amazing sense of humor. He lit the room on fire with fun and love. He will be remembered most for his wisdom, encouragement and unconditional love of family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife Bette of 56 years, daughters Debbie (Pat) Dougheny, Sheri Wilson, Tina (Jay) Hart, Joy Shakib (Derek), son Joey (Mary) Montalbano, and 9 loving grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and extended family and friends.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held Tuesday, March 3rd at 2pm at Forest Meadows Funeral Home 725 NW 23rd Avenue. Donations to Hospice or American Cancer Society are requested in lieu of flowers.
