Lavonia G. Melvin


Lavonia G. Melvin, 70, passed away on February 9, 2020 in Tennessee. She was born on May 7, 1949 in Gainesville, Florida. Lavonia worked in so many different fields in her life, but her love was with flowers. She could grow anything and had started a nursery. She will be greatly missed by her friends and her family. Lavonia was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo Melvin; parents, Eva and Charles Geer; and brothers, Roy and Audie Geer. She is survived by her four brothers, Junior (Sheila), Larue (Charlie), Lannie (Teresa), and Aubrey; four sisters, Carmen (David), Marilyn (Junior), Shirley, and Tammie. She also had tons of nieces and nephews most of whom she was a major part of their lives.  A graveside service will be held at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32606, on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00am.

    Eva and I were just talking about you earlier today. You mean more to us than I think you ever knew. The last time I saw you, you hugged me and said that you’d be watching over us. That was so hard to hear, because I knew that was going to be our final goodbye. I hope you’re living high class up there. I live and miss you so much. All four of us kids do. I’ll come by to visit you soon. I love you aunt Doney
