Mayes Vasco Yates, Jr., 95, of Newberry, FL passed away May 9, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Lake City.
He was born to Mayes Vasco Yates, Sr. and Gussie Mae Golden Yates on November 28, 1920 in Cairo, GA. He proudly served in the 1st Marine Division in the Marine Corps during WWII and retired as an electrician supervisor at the University of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Yates

Mr. Yates is survived by two sons, Donald Yates (Anna Marie) and Mayes Vasco Yates, III (Judy); daughter JoAnn Ridgell (Thomas); three grandchildren, Tommy Yates, DJ Yates, and Kimberly Yates; and great-granddaughter, Katie Yates.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 13, 2016 at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East, 3700 SE Hawthorne Road, Gainesville. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 PM Thursday, May 12 at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville.
