Nita Yarbrough Stanley

Mrs. Nita Yarbrough Stanley passed away at her home on Saturday, April 28, 2012. She was 93 years old.  Mrs. Stanley was born September 18, 1918 in Taylor, Florida to David Arthur Yarbrough and Maggie Raulerson Yarbrough.  She was a graduate of Taylor high school class of 1938, and moved to Gainesville shortly after her graduation.  She was a retired business owner and member of Countryside Baptist church, Gainesville.  She married Thomas Markham on Feb. 19, 1939 who was killed in action during WW II on Jan 9, 1945.  She remarried on June 26, 1948 to John Elliot Stanley, her husband of 50 years who preceded her in death on January 6, 1999. 


            She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lewis, Leo, Roy, Artie, Ed, and John Yarborough and her sister Elna.  She is survived by her sister Darcy Buckner, of Houston TX, sons Larry (Gloria) Markham, of Henderson Kentucky, Robert Markham of Ocala, grandsons John Markham of Gainesville, Coby Markham of Evansville IN, 3 great grandchildren, Trevor and Travis Markham of Gainesville, Thomas Markham of Henderson KY.


The family will receive friends on May 4, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23RD Ave., Gainesville, FL.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at Forest Meadows Funeral Home Chapel at 12:30 PM with procession and burial to follow at Jonesville Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 352-378-2528.  Please sign the guestbook at
