Mrs Patricia Anne “Perky” Smith

Gainesville, FL: Mrs. Patricia Anne “Perky” Smith died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, due to natural causes. Perky was born in Key West, FL in 1944, to USN Capt. Robert A. Schelling and Mary Anne R. Schelling. She attended schools in Virginia, California, and Japan in addition to residing in San Diego, Honolulu, Oregon, and Washington. She held degrees from the University of Washington and the University of Florida, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a passionate supporter of UF Baseball, and a lover of cats.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 49 ½ years, Dr. Gregory E. Smith, DDS, daughter Debbie Bailey (Bowie) of North Lauderdale, FL, son Patrick Smith (Kristin) of Richmond, VA, grandson Riley Smith of Wake Forest, NC, granddaughter Addison “Addie” Smith of Richmond, VA, sister Pamela Holder (Gary) of Pueblo, CO, nephew Samuel Holder (Michelle) of Springfield, MO, niece Rebecca Nuzzo (Phil) of Pueblo, CO, and numerous cousins throughout the United States.

A Requiem Mass will be held at Holy Faith Catholic Church (747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville) on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 9:30am. Following a brief reception at the church, Perky’s cremains will be interred at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery (4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville).
