I extend my sympathy and condolences to the family, and friends of Rex. I have known Rex for nearly 50 years. He made significant contributions in several areas of plant sciences. We collaborated on projects of mutual interest with Pennisetum involving joint laboratory efforts with his graduate students, and we became good friends. He had a comprehensive knowledge of forages and their role in animal production, based on first-hand knowledge of ranching that far exceeded my limited experiences. I was particularly impressed with the integrity he exhibited as we translated genetic and molecular data to field applications. I will miss Rex, too.
