Susan Lyn Carswell, 55, of Gainesville, Florida passed away on July 21, 2013. She was born on December 9, 1957in St. Augustine, Florida, the daughter of Joyce Carswell and the Late Alex Carswell, Sr. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1975. Lyn received an Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology from Santa Fe College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Saint Leo University and a certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from the International Ultrasound Institute in Dallas, Texas. She enjoyed her work in the Radiology Department at North Florida Regional Hospital and was there for 25 years. Lyn was the director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Santa Fe College for the last 10 years. She was instrumental in starting the program and enjoyed working with all her students. She showed her commitment to her profession by serving on a National Sonography Certification Board in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She loved God, her family and spending time with her friends. She is survived by her mother Joyce Riden Carswell: sister, Lou (Jimmy) Blanton; brothers Lex (Pam) Carswell and Linc (Julie) Carswell; nieces and nephews, Janna (Chris) Hornbaker, Jay Blanton, Becky (Jim) Carruth, Alex III, Alexis, Caleb, Carlie, and Kylie Carswell; great nieces Sara Beth and Sydney Lyn Hornbaker. Lyn was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Reed and her father, Alex Carswell, Sr. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at Parkview Baptist Church in Lake City, Florida at 2:00 pm on Wednesday July 24, 2013 with Pastor Mike Tatem officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainesville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkview Baptist Building Fund, 268 NW Lake Jeffrey Road, Lake City, Florida 32055 or Haven Hospice, 6037 US 90, Lake City, Florida 32055.
