Wanda Ellen Pons passed away, peacefully, on March 14 at ET York Haven Hospice, after a long illness.
Wanda was a loving Mother, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Lang Pons, Gainesville; her mother, Ruby Churchill and brother Neil Brown, both who reside in Colchester, Vermont; her daughters, Lisa Bell (Tony), Orange Park and Lori Berry (Dave), Gainesville, her grandchildren, Hank Rowell (Beverly), High Springs; Michael Rowell, Tallahassee and her Great Grandchildren: Karlie and Kaden Rowell, Skyla and Michael (Jr) Rowell. She loved them all dearly as they love her. Wanda also had other step children, nieces and nephews.
Although we mourn her passing, and will miss her very much, this is a time to celebrate her life. She was born in Northfield, VT on August 14, 1941, at home to parents Robert and Ruby Brown.
She’s lived in Gainesville for more than 40 years where she met and married Lang Pons. For many years she worked as a legal secretary at the University of Florida Law Center.
Most recently her passion was spending time with her family and playing computer games. She would enjoy spending hours defeating her on-line opponents! She had such a passion for keeping her mind sharp playing games, her daughter purchased a laptop for her to take to the hospital during the last 8 years of struggles with her health. All the people at Shands Medical Center that treated her during that time she considered to be family and she was loved by those who cared for her there.
A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 pm. Visitation and viewing will be from 1:00 until 2:00. . She will be laid to rest at a later date at Providence Windsor Methodist Church Cemetery in Windsor, Florida. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 352-378-2528.
