Gainesville, FL – Warren Henry Love, Cdr. USN (Ret.), passed away early on Monday, November 5, 2012, after several months of ill health. Cdr. Love, 89, was born the younger of two sons to Robert H. Love, Jr. and Margaret Sexton Rochette on July 27, 1923 in St. Paul, MN.
Cdr. Love was commissioned an Ensign in the U. S. Navy in 1943. During flight training in Daytona Beach, FL, he met and soon married his wife of 68 years, Merle Louise Yelvington. After 26 years of service as a decorated Naval aviator, he retired from the Navy in 1967 to the Daytona Beach area, where he worked in the private sector with contractors, home financing, and construction.
After full retirement in 1980, Warren and Merle always lived near family and friends in the Daytona area, Gastonia, NC, and Gainesville, FL.
Warren is survived by his wife, Merle; his sons Larry, of Paris, TX and Weston, MA and Randy [Jacqui], of Nashville TN; his daughter Jan [COL Carl Wagner, USA (Ret.)] of Woodbridge, VA; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held November 8 at 9:30 AM at Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville, FL. Burial with military honors will be held at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery in Daytona Beach, FL at a later date.
Cdr Love was a Carrier pilot in the Pacific during World War II , a great hero who fought the Japanese.
Although I did not know him personally I knew his son Dr Larr Love
